Book Giveaway!! Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting!

A signed copy of Kimberly Derting's Desires of the Dead + signed swag!

Kimberly Derting's Body Finder books have become favorites in our house, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to attend one of Kimberly's recent booksigning events!  You can read my full event report here.  If you haven't read The Body Finder or Desires of the Dead yet, I highly recommend both books!  If you happen to have an ereader, HarperCollins is currently offering The Body Finder (with bonus material) for just $1.99 at AmazonBarnes & Noble, and Borders, so it is an awesome time to give this fantastic series a try if you haven't already.  I'm excited to be able to share some fabulous signed Desires of the Dead goodies with our readers!

Desires of the Dead summary:
The missing dead call to Violet. They want to be found.

Violet can sense the echoes of those who've been murdered—and the matching imprint that clings to their killers. Only those closest to her know what she is capable of, but when she discovers the body of a young boy she also draws the attention of the FBI, threatening her entire way of life.

As Violet works to keep her morbid ability a secret, she unwittingly becomes the object of a dangerous obsession. Normally she'd turn to her best friend, Jay, except now that they are officially a couple, the rules of their relationship seem to have changed. And with Jay spending more and more time with his new friend Mike, Violet is left with too much time on her hands as she wonders where things went wrong. But when she fills the void by digging into Mike's tragic family history, she stumbles upon a dark truth that could put everyone in danger.

Flower Friday - Graham Thomas + Friday's Fab Five

'Graham Thomas' roses

This week's featured flowers are - 'Graham Thomas' roses!  These pretty yellow roses bloom in large, lovely clusters and smell wonderful.  This is the first time we've featured a flower that is not from our own yard, so I don't have any personal experience with growing this rose, but they happen to be in bloom at our favorite city park right now and I just couldn't resist snapping a couple photos of them while we were at the park this afternoon.  I am excited to learn more about them and am already trying to figure out if we could make space to fit 'Graham Thomas' into our yard.   To learn more about about 'Graham Thomas' roses, check out Dave's Garden's Graham Thomas page, Backyard Gardener's Graham Thomas page, or HelpMeFind's Graham Thomas page.

A few book and blogosphere updates:

1.  Our Stupid Shiny Designs contest ends on Tuesday (8/31), so be sure to stop by and enter if you haven't already!  Click here to enter.  Our Richelle Mead giveaway also ends Tuesday (8/31), so if you would like the chance to win a signed copy of Vampire Academy click here to enter that giveaway.

2.  Julie Kagawa shared an excerpt from The Iron Queen on Harlequin's Blog.  Click here to get a sneak peek of what Meghan and Ash are up to in The Iron Queen.  :-)

3.  Escape from Reality is giving away a copy of Sophie Jordan's Firelight.  The contest ends 8/31.  You can stop by to check out that contest here.
This fun meme is hosted by Froggarita's Bookcase.  Every Friday Froggarita asks five questions so we can all get to know each other better.  The only rule is that you can't use the same answer twice within your five!   Ready to play?  Leave your answers in the comments or leave us a link to your own Friday's Fab Five post.

1. What is your favorite tree?
Jacaranda!  I absolutely love Jacaranda trees, but they won't survive the winters where we live.  We've tried planting and pampering them several times, but never with any success.  Eventually we settled for keeping a few baby Jacarandas inside (as bonsai-style houseplants).

2. What is your zodiac sign?
Pisces

3. How long does it take you to do your grocery shopping?
If the kids are with me, at least an hour.  If I am alone, about thirty minutes.

4. How often do you ride a bike?
Not very often.

5. Who is your role model?
My mom.  :-)

Book Giveaway!!! Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead!

A signed copy ofVampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Update (9/1):  Contest Closed
Winner:  Elena

Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy is the first book in a fantastic YA urban fantasy series!  If you like urban fantasy books with delicious romantic tension, then this series is definitely for you!   If  you enjoy reading about brazen, snarky heroines who are more like Buffy than Bella, then Rose Hathaway is the protagonist for you.  I devoured the first five books in this series and can't wait to read the sixth and final book!  By the way, Last Sacrifice's release date is now less than four months away!  YAY!  Not that I am counting down the days or anything. . .  ;-)

I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to meet Richelle Mead last night, and I am so excited to have picked up a signed copy of  Vampire Academy to give away to one of our followers here on The Eager Readers.  To see my photos and videos from the Richelle Mead book signing click here.  Candace and I attended the event together, and she will be giving away a signed copy of Vampire Academy on her blog too, so you can double your odds of winning a signed copy by entering both giveaways.

Vampire Academy summary:
St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.
