It's Monday, What Are You Reading?

Currently Reading:
Paranormalcy by Kiersten White
Brief thoughts:  I am about halfway through this book right now and if I hadn't been completely exhausted from a long day at the Shrewsbury Renaissance Faire yesterday, I would have stayed up late to finish it last night.  This book is such fun!  Evie is hilarious and adorable and I'm totally intrigued by the  paranormal mystery.  :-)

Thornspell by Helen Lowe
Brief thoughts:  This is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty from the young prince's point of view.  Primrose is reading this book with me and we are only about six chapters into right now, but we are both enjoying it so far.  Lots of magic and mystery right from the start.

Recently Finished Reading:

The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman
Brief thoughts:  Primrose and I both liked this humorous adventure story about
friendship, kindness, and overcoming prejudices.  It is a fairly short and simple tale about a rude and self-centered young prince who runs away from the castle with his Whipping Boy (the boy who has had the unfortunate duty of receiving all the punishments the prince has earned with his consistently obnoxious behavior).  Just after leaving the castle, they stumble across two highwaymen who decide to kidnap the prince and ransom him for a fortune, so most of the book is spent following the two boys as they attempt to get away from the dastardly kidnappers.  Along the way, the prince learns several lessons about compassion and friendship.
Matched (ARC) by Ally Condie
Brief thoughts:  My husband and I both enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the second book in the trilogy next fall.  I will post my full review of Matched a bit closer to the release date (November 30th).  This is not an action-packed dystopian or a racy romance, but it is and a very sweet and poetic dystopian novel.  If you like
contemplative, non-combative dystopian stories (like Lois Lowry's The Giver) and relatively innocent romantic YA novels, then you are going to love Matched!  :-)

Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols
Brief thoughts:  This contemporary YA romance is a quick, absorbing book about two teens who are haunted by their pasts.  You can read my full review here.

Up Next in my TBR pile:

This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen
Brief thoughts:  This will be my first Sarah Dessen book, and I'm looking forward to reading it.

What are you reading today?  What's up next in your TBR pile?

I'm 1/4 of the way through Paranormalcy and really enjoying it also. I like Evie's sassy silliness.
Yes I agree, Matched is amazing! I think it juts fits Ally style and is honestly just a beautiful book.
