City of Lost Souls and City of Heavenly Fire!

(Placeholder covers for the next three TMI books from the official TMI website)

Cassandra Clare shared some very exciting news in her USTREAM chat this afternoon!  She officially announced that she is writing two more Mortal Instruments books to follow City of Fallen Angels.  City of Lost Souls is set to be published in May 2012 and City of Heavenly Fire will be published in September  2013!  How exciting is that?!  More of all our favorite TMI characters - Clary, Jace, Simon, Isabelle, Magnus, and Alec = AWESOME!  :-)

She didn't reveal many details about the upcoming continuation of the TMI series, but she did say that the main antagonist they will face is someone who has been mentioned (but no one seems to have correctly guessed who that is yet).  Cassandra also mentioned a few minor plot elements from the next three TMI books.  *MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD*  (highlight the area below to read them)
1.  Simon's wandering is interpreted in a very specific way & is more like being an outcast.
2.  Aline will get a girlfriend.
3.  There will be a new Inquisitor as well as a new Consul.
4.  Jocelyn is worried that Clary's relationship with Jace could lead her to make some of the same youthful mistakes Jocelyn regrets having made, so she is not a huge fan of their relationship.
5.  New characters will be introduced, including a new male character and a new female character who may shake up the relationships a bit.
6.  Some questions that are brought up in Clockwork Prince (The Infernal Devices, #2) will be answered in City of Lost Souls (The Mortal Instruments, #5).

Are you as excited as I am to hear that there will be more Mortal Instruments books?!  *does a happy dance*  :-)

YES and NO! Yes because I'm excited for the two new books. And, no because I don't want spoil number 5 to happen! I don't know if my heart can take it! ;)

Jenni - I completely agree with you! As much as I can't wait to read the new trilogy of Mortal Instruments books, I am also terrified to be tortured by them for three more years! Eek! Lack of conflict makes for a boring story, but it may physically hurt me to see those characters put through another three rounds of torture. ;)

I'm excited at other people's excitement. I own the first book, but haven't read it yet. I know I should get to it.

Jenni & Violet! I feel your pain! I just want these two kids to have their HEA fighting the bads guys side-by-side. Let others have he dang conflicts! Oh well, after all is said and done, I'm sure we'll be happy.

Medeia...I put off reading the books for the longest time, (I didn't want to get lost in another YA series, silly, I know), then a friend stuck the first two books in my hands. Still, I didn't read them. I let them sit for about a month then finally picked up the first one and couldn't put it down. I was so glad to have the second book ready and waiting when I finished.

I'm VERY excited as well, but I agree, the TORTURE is getting to me already!

Medeia - I hope you end up liking City of Bones! :) The Mortal Instruments books are among my favorite YA novels. Engaging characters, lots of humor, and a delicious dose of romantic tension make that series hard to resist.

Mandy - Right?! They've definitely earned their HEA already, but perhaps their HEA will be even sweeter and more satisfying after they've endured the trials of the next three books. As much as I am frightened for them (and for my sanity in between books), I am thrilled that we will get to see more of all those great characters. :)

Candace - Haha! I love that you are already feeling tortured! At least we'll be tortured in good company. ;)

I just finished reading City of Fallen Angels and it pains my heart to know that I will have to wait another year for the next book!! Especially with an ending like that...This is more than torture but the story is beyond awesome, its worth the torture.

Deniese - I completely agree! That ending was truly torturous, but the awesome story makes it totally worth it! Can't wait to see what happens in City of Lost Souls! :)

I seriously need to read this series. Isn’t the first one becoming a movie? I feel left out!
